The Good, the Best and the Ugly

~The Good~

I have always loved animals in jewellery and I think Mawi is such an amazing designer; what could've been better when she combined the two brilliantly a couple of seasons ago? After spotting lots of Mawi jewellery online, I have been lusting after a piece since sixth form.

Lust needs to be satisifed, right? Otherwise we'd just explode!

Well, suffice to say, I pounced on a Mawi leopard head necklace when it was on sale at asos.com and bought it as a birthday present to myself, heheh. Then, whilst randomly trawling eBay, I found a brand-new-in-box pair of matching earrings.

I pounced on that too.

You might've noticed that the stones on the necklace are sapphire, and I think that the earrings are emerald (or green glass... haha). The Boyf asked me whether I'd be ok with the different colours - I love it. A wonderful twist on a beautiful set of jewellery ^_^

Also, my Sanyo Eneloops (rechargeable batteries for Elmo) finally arrived! I had to buy it from a different seller blah blah blah but had a bit of a fail whilst charging it for the first time. The indicator light didn't light up when I plugged it in. It took me ages to figure out why >.<

~the Best~

Two amazing things happened today.

1. The Boyf cooked for me.
That in itself is not too extraordinary, but he bought fresh scallops with coral-red roe and even dusted them with cornflour and salt before searing them! Beautiful~
My only regret is that I didn't take Elmo with me to his place! :(

2. Trinity May Ball replied.
And obviously, because it's under ~the Best~, the answer was positive. YAAAAAAY! ^_^
I am so excited and I just can't hide it. It will be the best May Ball ever!

I replied; my little fingers have never danced faster.

EXAMS.
'Nuff said.

~*~

Soundtrack of the day: I'm so excited, of course.

Anything you're particularly excited about? :D

MW x Paparazzi

As it's all busy revising throughout Cambridge at the moment, it would be evil of me to harass my friends for photos so I decided to take Elmo out on a stroll.

I love Elmo ^_^
Shirt - mens TK Maxx | Trousers - 7 For All Mankind | Watch - Iceberg | Necklace - Car boot sale

I found this moveable goldtone fish for £1! Bargain :D

It was a lovely day and I looked like a Chinese tourist walking through College with my camera. Actually, I felt like a tourist too. Except tourists wouldn't take a photo of their friend with rolled-up hems.

Distilled, chilled student style.

The Wren Library (?) - Omilordy, I don't believe I've been here two years without knowing if this is the Wren or not.

The river Cam, complete with punters and geese!

Apparently it's going to rain tomorrow so I'm glad I managed to get these photos in time!

PS - here's a little project I worked on for about an hour.

Before

After

My tissue box is right next to my desk so when I look over, the Sainsbury's Basics box made me unhappy so I cut up a product magazine (for Pia) instead and now it makes me smile everytime I see it ^_^

PPS - (directed at one of my favouritest people) sorry, no out-takes today :(

"Dead cow jeans"

The title of this blog post refers to the (in)apt pseudonym for my jeans (depending on whether you think they look like dead cow print or not...). My bestest friends in sixth form found them a bit OTT but I simply adore them to be honest ^_^

Picked the driest spot so my bum doesn't get wet!

Jacket - vintage Jaeger | Silk shirt - Pied a Terre at House of Fraser | Jeans - Diesel (Cuddy style)
Boat shoes - TK Maxx | Necklace - Accessorize (?) | Belt - Thomas Burberry.

The Boyf, "MW, you look really short in those jeans and shoes. I'm only going to take a half-body shot." >.<

"Ze French Cuff" and boat shoes <3

I have been lusting after Garance Doré's "Ze French Cuff" after spying it on her blog. It's something that needs to be replicated more (but with skinnier jeans and heels rather than skinny jeans and boat shoes)! The red and leopard print pumps with the bike is so so chic.

Out-take:
The shirt is actually quite stiff and so when I tuck it in, it creates a rather unflattering bulge.

Me and my food baby ^_^

Does anyone know how I can de-stiffen just the button-line bit of a shirt? *confused*

PS. Just an aside - I found a huge spider in my corridor the other day and it was SO SO BIG but not moving so I presumed it was dead. I knocked on my neighbour's door and we discussed for about 10 minutes on how to get rid of it, then decided to leave it to our bedder the next morning.

5 minutes later, I pass the corridor again (to get to the kitchen for some water) and the spider had disappeared.

My desperate plea to fellow housemates.

And because it wasn't moving, I used 'macro' mode on Elmo to get some creepy close-ups.

I'm not normally scared of spiders but this one was actually the granddaddiest of them all!

It created a bit of a stir and I even managed to get a reply to my message from the Housekeeper but the post-it disappeared before I had the chance to photograph it :(

Plain sailoring...

On the rare occassions that the Boyf does come round this term (due to "exams" that've now finished and a "project" that he's had a year to prepare for), he is wunderbar and asked to play with Elmo. Well, I'm not complaining! ^_~

On the bench outside the kitchen.

Pretending to be a flower.

Under Phil's directions to "strut my stuff".
Jacket - DIY Oasis (sewed on gold buttons) ¦ t-shirt - DIY M&S (the same gold buttons, haha)
skirt - vintage Emanuel Ungaro ¦ wedges - Korkease.

The above was a selection of the ones that turned out well. The Boyf was very adamant that I looked too "rigid" and told me to lighten up which resulted in a series of rather silly photos.

Below are my favourite out-takes:

MW: "Please stop being horrible about my poses"
MW: "You want attitude? YOU'RE GETTING
ATTITUDE!
"

Don't ask... I don't know.

I realise there may have been an overload of gold buttons but I didn't want to cut them off just for this outfit! (I think the answer is to invest in more stripey t-shirts :D)

Hope you enjoyed the first proper outfit post and tell me what you think of the out-takes ie. funny or just plain unflattering? :)

Luncheon with the Master

One of the perks of being a student caller for Trinity's first ever Telephone Campaign is that we get to have lunch with the Master (ok ok, other colleges do this too, but I want to believe that our Master is harder to secure for a lunch date :P).

The weather was pretty good and I played with Elmo (see here) in the Master's Garden (note: this is not the Fellow's Garden which can be booked by students/societies, only Fellows can book this one, hehe ^_^).

The top of St. John's College

Trying to capture the sun's rays

After lunch (it seemed like a lot of food at the time but I was hungry after I got home :S), we went outside and went snappy-happy for a photo that will appear in the next issue of one of Trinity's alumni magazines.

Harhar, guess who was lucky enough to sit next to the Master? ^_^
The Telephone Campaign crew, albeit not all of us :(
The Master and myself (I know I have huuge bags under my eyes. Blame exam term)
We were already dressed up so decided to get up close and personal with the Fountain ^_~

Ok, so I didn't actually get a proper outfit photo but I have cropped the above to give you an idea of what I wore.

Stripey blazer - Chinese market; black vest - Primark; black shorts - trouser cutoffs; transparent dress - vintage eBay; wedges - Korkease; oversize clutch - belated birthday present I received today from the bestest person ever! :D

So, all in all, a good day, and yes, I did manage to get away with wearing near-hotpants in the Master's presence *small victory dance*

Say Hello to Elmo

My DSLR is here! ^_^ *happy dance*

I have christened him "Elmo" for apparent reasons. I tried to find baby boy names that related to 'red' and nearly called him 'Rushkin' (meaning "little red-haired one"), Rushkin sounds like Munchkin, hehe.

Elmo's inner sexiness: the gold-plated battery compartment.

Unfortunately, the rechargeable lithium (?) batteries I ordered online still haven't come yet, so I had to use a good friend's alkaline AAs (Elmo gobbled them up though).

Elmo's first!

Playing with depth of field with my necklace collection.

The shoe collection on top of my wardrobe (I nearly fell off my bed when trying to take this shot)

I haven't been able to keep "Hello" by Martin Solveig out of my head ever since thinking up this post's title. Love love love.

Just hoping that my Sanyo Eneloop batteries arrive soon and then I can take lots of photos, fo' shizzle.

Arbitrarily setting aperture...

In preparation for the arrival of my new camera (yippee!), I decided to take my Canon Powershot SX210IS (aka. the Friends Camera according to Phil; I wanted to call it Cody or Kobe or something K-sounding) outside and play with the manual setting.

I'm not reallllyyy quite sure about how they turned out, but here goes:
My (+13 other people's) house!
Putting my "reading lots of reviews about cameras"-cap on - I think it currently suffers from "barrel distortion"?

Some flower thingies that look like grapes... No idea what they're called :( Also, I think my hand wobbled.

I overheard some people outside my room discussing these flowers, and promptly forgot their names. Good thing I'm not a BioNatsci.
Actually, I think this would've turned out better in "Auto" or "Easy" mode. Fail.

With photo 3, I know the paved area is overexposed but I couldn't capture both the pavement AND the green leaves (they turned out pretty much black in some photos), so I opted for the leaves instead. Also, the pink petal tips are unnerving - another thing I need to learn about. Damn sun, if it had been less sunny, the patio would've made it into the photo.

I've noticed that the department that takes care of the foliage have been uber active today! There were DANGER! TREE CUTTING signs everywhere (and fallen branches to tell the tale) and the sprinklers were on outside my window :)

Happily, I managed to get some work done - haha, finally! - (but blog-whored from about 10pm onwards). Reading economics journals about something I'm interested in actually makes the time go quickly. Yay ^_^

MW x

EDIT: I just googled "big flowers" and I instantly recognised one of the first images.
PEONIES!
I should've known, considering how I've been admiring Jaeger's new dress. When Xinmei (puddingpielane.blogspot.com) and I walked into Jaeger for some browsing post-supervision, I commented that the dress looks amazing on a tall, thin mannequin/model, but alas, wouldn't do much for me :(

Bloginity

... Actually, my bloginity was lost way back, but I haven't blogged in years so I'm thinking this is a fresh start! :)

Reasons for a fresh start:
1. The Old Blog was in the heady days of pre-university
2. It is now Easter (*cough* Exam *cough*) term and I am spending >5 hours a day reading other people's blogs instead of revising. Hopefully, starting my own will be a remedy to my addiction.
3. The summer internship will begin on 27th June 2011. I want to capture its highlights (City-workers' outfits ^_~) and use them as inspiration for my own outfits! Until then, I might pose (very unprofessionally) for some photos and ask friends (maybe even strangers) for an outfit snapshot and put them up when I have time.

Tools I will need for a fresh start are:
- A DSLR to take sharp (and flattering) photos of others.
- A good boyfriend to take sharp (and especially, flattering) photos of me. [Infinitely patient friends will be a substitute for this but I'd feel a bit embarrassed if I harassed them with my camera]
- A wardrobe of smart/tailored/interesting clothes+shoes+accessories

I am currently awaiting a DSLR, should have the second tool under my belt* and the third one is dubious but I'll work on it.

Hope you enjoyed my bloginity post and I'll endeavour to keep posting :)
